Yoon is a web-based platform for crowdsourcing viral video content. People from around the world can sign up and upload their content to the platform. Approved content is then distributed for monetization on services like YouTube or licensed for use on television. Everything is managed within the user portal, including reports and automated payment for clip earnings. Alternate user onboarding flows and a minimal dashboard reflect the fact that other large viral brands are encouraging their users to use the platform to generate content & revenue.
Hosting a platform that allows anyone to submit a video is quite a challenge for a number of reasons. At any time thousands of users could be uploading content at the same time. Once the content is uploaded the platform needs to generate image thumbnails as well as process the video into a web friendly format. Admins can then review videos natively within their dashboard.
We also wanted to consider storage costs & nurturing user relationships. To reduce storage costs, we are continuing to develop “garbage collection” strategies to purge videos that don’t quite make the cut. In a coordinated effort with the Yoon team, we have developed the platform to nurture users along each step of the journey to ensure they get the most from of what the platform has to offer.
