NEW SHOPIFY FEATURES 2017

These are some of our favorites.

Shopify Pay 

Bringing the checkout process from 16 fields to 2.  Shopify will start allowing a universal checkout experience similar to Amazon's across all Shopify stores.  Once enabled, users will be able to enter their registered phone number and receive a code via text to confirm their identity and complete their checkout.  This will play a huge part in increasing conversion rates accross all stores on the Shopify platform.

Shopify Card Reader

The new bluetooth connected Shopify POS device is finally here.  It supports modern chip enabled cards as well as the traditional card swipe.  This lightweight piece of hardware is a game changer for in-person sales.  More on the new Shopify Chip Reader here.

Price Rules (Schedule Discounts, Multiple discount factors)

New enhanced control of discounts that was lacking in previous years.  Both at the storeowner and developer level many new improvements have been made regarding the implementation of complex discount rules that allow for more flexibility in running/marketing your business.

Draft Orders API

The new Draft Orders API allows full control of the order creation process.  In addition to the API this feature is natively available under the Orders tab of the Shopify Admin. Draft orders also enable the use of custom items to represent additional costs or products that aren't displayed in a shop's inventory, or to let merchants sell products at discount or wholesale rates.

This provides great flexibility not only to store owners but to developers in creating new orders for sales made by phone, in person, via chat, or by other means, and sending invoices to customers to pay with a secure checkout link. We see this especially useful for in the use case of taking pre-orders.

Polaris UX Kit for Apps

A developer focused addition to the platform focused on uniform embedded app UX.  While developer focused, this addition will ultimately improve the Shopify store owner's experience by providing uniform look & feel to embedded applications. 

The Future of Shopify

While not available today, the following announcements were made regarding the future of the platform..

-From Shopify store to native app experience.  Shopify plans to roll out new software that will enable store owners to place mobile app versions of their webstore available for download in popular marketplaces like the Apple App Store.

-New shipping options i.e. pickup in store.

-Multiple location inventory management
